Tramway and Light Railway Society

• The Tramway and Light Railway Society is a registered National Charity and is the UK society for everyone interested in tramways and especially tramway modelling.

• Founded in 1938, the TLRS now has around a thousand members.

• There are keen tram modelling groups in the Society covering most scales, with the strongest representation in 1:16, O gauge, and 'Sub-7mm', which covers OO, HO and N scales.

• Recent society activities are reviewed in:

TLRS Aims

The TLRS aims are to:

• Advance education and knowledge in all facets of tramways;

• Bring together those interested in tramways;

• Collect archives, photographs, drawings and anything else related to tramways;

• Publish books following research into all aspects of tramways;

• Encourage tramway modelling and exhibiting;

• Hold meetings and arrange visits for members.

TLRS Member Services

A wide variety of useful services and facilities are offered to TLRS members:

• Member's Notice Board. Announcements and news for T.L.R.S. members.

  

• The Society publishes an excellent bi-monthly magazine called Tramfare.

• There are active Area Groups in many parts of the UK. They hold regular varied meetings and exchange modelling information. These TLRS meetings are part of the diary compiled by the Tramway Liason Committee, which is shown on the LRTA Meetings page.

• There is a German-Speaking Group/Deutschsprachige Gruppe.

• The TLRS supports tramway modelling with a range of facilities:

  • The Tramway Modelling On-line Reference on this web site contains articles and modelling tips.

  • Modelling Standards for the common scales have been established.

  • The Model Engineering Secretary sells essential items for large scale modelling.

  • TLRS On-line Sales sells items for small scale modelling.

  • Exhibitions are staged or exhibited at by the various Area Groups.

  • Each year, there is a national model tram competition and tramway tours associated with the Annual General Meeting.

• The TLRS provides a variety of tramway information:

  • Tramway history and modelling books are published and which, together with books from associated authors, can be purchased here on-line.

  • The Archive and National Model Tram Collection contains historical material which members may consult.

  • A painting of Charlton Central Repair Depot was made in tribute to our late President Richard Elliott.

  • The TLRS photographic archive includes items such as

    • W.J.Haynes London Trolleybus negative collection

    • Ray Wilson tram photos.
